Last week we continued our study of fiction in our reading groups. Each day, we learned a new element of fiction that we can now apply to our novels, such as conflict, setting, mood, inferencing, and characterization. We also had our first roots quiz on Friday. The amount of perfect scores was very impressive!! We will continue to work on our roots this week, and get into the juicy parts of The Misfits and The Revealers. I hope everyone had a great weekend!
Thank you to all parents who came to Open House on Thursday night! It was so nice to meet everyone. I will be uploading the parent Instagram information sheet under the Important Documents tab so if you did not get a chance to grab one on Thursday, feel free to print out a copy to send in. Please email me with any questions about the account!
Last week we dove head-first into our first unit which focuses on bullying and choices that we make in and out of school. Students were divided into groups and assigned either The Misfits by James Howe or The Revealers by Doug Wilhelm. We will continue reading this week, in addition to introducing several more elements of fiction into the mix. Last week we also discussed how our study of Greek and Latin roots would run this year. Students were assigned their first list and roots contract. Their contracts are due on Thursday (description can be found under the Important Documents tab) and they will have their first quiz on Friday! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! Thank you all for an amazing first week! You were definitely given a whole lot of new information, expectations, rules, procedures, etc. and you handled it like champs!
This week we will begin to talk about how our study of Greek and Latin roots will run, with a look at our first list on Monday. We will also start to jump into our first unit on fiction as we split up to tackle two awesome novels, The Misfits and The Revealers. I can't wait to see you all and get down to work! Parents, I hope to see you all at open house on Thursday night! |
