April has been full of food talk! We have read through Michael Pollan's The Omnivore's Dilemma, as well as researched using TEDtalks and the film Food Inc. Students have been working with all nonfiction texts as they try and figure out WHAT IS the "omnivore's dilemma"?? We are wrapping up the unit with my favorite project--the Healthy Choice Restaurant Project!
Last week we continued our study of nonfiction by way of The Omnivore's Dilemma. We have also integrated some interesting videos, such as Jamie's Oliver's TEDtalk about the lack of food education for young children. Students have been researching in the text to come up with an informed decision about what is the omnivore's dilemma that we face. We will be wrapping up the book after MCAS this week...
Speaking of MCAS--all of the students have been working incredibly hard this year getting ready to take MCAS 2.0. All students have taken part in half-day Tuesday's RAM It Up Days in which we spend the whole day working on one lesson that teaches them skills needed to enhance their reading and writing abilities. On top of that, over half of our Liberty Team students took part in our RAMcas afterschool program that took place twice a week for five weeks, really honing in on those essential reading, math, and test-taking skills needed to do well. Mrs. Quinlan and I are so proud and cannot wait to see the amazing scores everyone is sure to earn! |
